ABILENE – The Abilene Christian track and field teams heads to San Antonio Friday and Saturday for the Eighth Annual Cardinal Invitational at the Gayle and Tom Benson Track Stadium on the campus of UIW.
A trio of women's shot put throwers and men's hammer throwers are slated to start competition for the Wildcats at 2 p.m. The Women's 1,500-meter run is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. with Diana Garcia-Munoz and Soren Underwood competing for ACU to begin track events.
Saturday's action is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the triple jump, discus and high jump. Running events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100m relay.
LAST MEET: The Wildcats sent a group of throwers to last weekend's Baylor Invitational, while the multi athletes traveled to San Angelo for the David Noble Angelo State Relays.
ACU posted 13 top-five finishes between the two meets. Thrower Ryan Simmons set a new personal best in discus with a throw of 54.11 meters finishing third. Kai Schmidt took the top spot in both shot put and discus with marks of 17.59m and 55.64m, respectively.
Freshman multi Megan Kirby took third with 4,625 points. She finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.84m, and fourth in the 200m dash (25.90 seconds), high jump (1.58m) and 100m hurdles (14.61).
UP NEXT: The Wildcats are split between three different meets with some heading to California for the Mt. SAC Relays (Thurs.-Sat.) and Long Beach Invitational (Fri.-Sat.) in Torrance and Long Beach, Calif. Saturday a group will head to Waco for the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor.
