FORT WORTH – In a game that took six weeks to complete, the ninth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs finished at Lupton Stadium what they started at Crutcher Scott Field as they knocked off ACU, 3-0, Tuesday night.
The game between the Wildcats and Horned Frogs got started on March 21 in Abilene, but was suspended in the top of the fifth inning because of rain and lightning. It was agreed between ACU head coach
Britt Bonneau and TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle that the teams would finish the game on May 2 when the two teams were scheduled to play a full game in Fort Worth. It was later decided that the regular game would not be played and only the makeup game would be completed.
TCU entered the game on its home field as the visitor, and when the contest picked up, Luken Baker was at the plate with Austen Wade on third and two outs in the top of the fifth inning. ACU freshman pitcher
Nick Skeffington — who started the game on March 21 — returned the mound and walked Baker before betting Josh Watson to fly out to
Anthony Dominguez in right-centerfield to end the inning with TCU leading 2-0.
ACU had its best chance to score Tuesday night in the bottom of the sixth when
Luis Trevino led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout by Dominguez.
Russell Crippen then singled to left, but Trevino was thrown out at the plate trying to score and
Koby Claborn then went down looking to end the inning.
The Wildcats got just one more hit in the game — a hard-hit single up the middle by
Mark Pearson in the seventh — but couldn't muster a true scoring threat against TCU's bullpen duo of Sean Wymer in the eighth and sophomore closer Dubrin Feltman in the ninth. Feldman pitched a dominating 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season and 20th of his career.
