SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Abilene Christian track and field waited until the final event of the third and final day of the Texas State Bobcat Invitational before winning its first event, but it was a memorable victory as the 4x400-meter relay team of
Blaze Brownlow,
Lee-Andrew Bloomfield,
Avery Williams and
Ryan Linton passed Texas A&M on the final lap, winning by .43 seconds.
ACU's relay finished the race in 3:11.21, while the Aggie's 'A' relay of Bryce Deadmon, Infinite Tucker, Austin Warren and Ilolo Izu posted the runner-up time of 3:11.64. UTRGV was the bronze medalist in this race, coming across in 3:15.95.
Linton passed the Aggies' Izu on the anchor leg, and just prior to this race he finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a lifetime personal record of 21.26 seconds that was good for fifth place in a field of 52 runners.
Linton's PR was one of nine this weekend record by the Wildcats. He also set a new PR in the 100m dash, finishing 17th with a time of 10.60.
Other than the men's 4x400m relay, there were only two other medal stand showings for ACU both of which were in the javelin where
McKennon Cecil reached a second-place PR distance of 170 feet-6 inches and
Reagan Mabery placed third with her lifetime best of 128-02.
The Wildcats also posted 15 finishes within the top 10. Fourth place honors went to junior
Ryan Cleary in the 1,500m run as he finished that race with a PR of 3:55.66, and junior pole vaulter
Kenzie Walker Mascorro, who topped out at 12-11.50 (3.95m).
Elsewhere in the jumps,
Jaden Dement placed eighth in the pole vault (15-5 / 4.70m) and
Riley Ellis reached 6-2.75 (1.90m) in the long jump to finish sixth. And in the throws,
Taylor Posey placed ninth in the shot put (44-03.50 / 13.50) in addition to recording the 10th-best hammer throw in ACU history of 154-02 (46.98m).
Josh Hunter also fared well, placing fourth in the shot put (51-11.75 / 15.84m) and seventh in the discus (162-02 / 49.43m).
Additional strong showings on the track included Browlow's 10th-place mark of 48.29 in the 400m dash, and
Carnley Graham's sixth-place time of 4:47.62 in the 1500m run.
Reid Rivers was ninth in the men's 1500m at 4:00.59, and Bloomfield clocked an eighth-place time of 54.48 in the 400m hurdles.
Next up for the Wildcats is their first of two trips to Waco, Texas for the Baylor Invitational on Saturday, April 8. ACU is off the following weekend and returns to Baylor April 22 for the Michael Johnson Invitational.
