NACOGDOCHES – The ACU Wildcats return to Southland Conference play this weekend with a three-game set against Stephen F. Austin at Jaycees Field.
The series was to have started Friday night, but that game was washed out by rain. Instead, the series will get started with a doubleheader Saturday (noon first pitch for Game 1) and a 1 p.m. game Sunday in the series finale.
The Wildcats are 9-10 overall and 1-5 in the Southland after dropping three games last weekend at New Orleans. ACU's home game last Tuesday against No. 3 TCU was stopped in the top of the fifth because of lightning and rain. The Horned Frogs led
2-0 when the game went into a delay.
The game will be finished May 2 in Fort Worth and the head coaches will determine at a later time whether or not the regularly scheduled game between the two teams will be played following the completion of the suspended game.
SFA enters the series at 10-13 overall and 0-3 in the league. The Lumberjacks are 9-3 at home with wins over Southeast Missouri, UT-Arlington and Arkansas-Little Rock. The Lumberjacks' best performance of the season might have come on Feb. 21 when they went to College Station and dropped a 6-5 decision to No. 15 Texas A&M in a game that went 12 innings.
These three games are the final three in a stretch that has seen the Wildcats play seven of their last eight games on the road. After Sunday's game, ACU will play its next seven games at Crutcher Scott Field: Tuesday (March 28) vs. Texas-Permian Basin, March 31-April 2 vs. Sam Houston State and April 7-9 vs. McNeese.
