ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis fell to 2-3 on the season after dropping two of three road duals this weekend. The Wildcats began their two-day, two-city trip with a 7-0 victory vs. Prairie View A&M Saturday morning, but then lost 5-2 at Houston Saturday night and 6-1 at SMU Sunday afternoon.
Playing without one of their best competitors in junior
Lucile Pothier, the Wildcats posted a 9-9 combined singles record and were 3-5 in doubles. ACU won two of three matches at the doubles top line with
Erin Walker and
Whitney Williams beating Prairie View, and Walker and
Sarah Eleanor Adams topping SMU's Liza Buss and Dasha Sharapova, 6-3.
Adams also won her match at No. 2 doubles with
Jordan Henry vs. the Panthers and was one of three Wildcats to go 2-1 in singles. A freshman, Adams played all her matches at No. 3 and defeated her opposition from Prairie View (6-2, 6-1) and Houston (7-6, 6-7 (2), 10-4) before losing to SMU's Ana Perez-Lopez in straight sets.
Henry and
Autumn Crossnoe were 2-1 between the No. 4 and 5 positions. Henry earned ACU's lone point today vs. SMU, beating Charline Anselmo at No. 5, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7, and posted a 6-4, 6-1 win vs. the Panthers' Shaddae Findley.
Crossnoe's victories were against Panther Timara Maxwell, 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 and Houston's Constanden Nicolaou, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Feb. 11 for their annual indoor invitational vs. Trinity and Tyler.
