ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis makes its 2017 home debut Saturday with a pair of indoor duals against its ITA Texas Region rivals from TCU and UTEP.
The Wildcats (0-0) and Horned Frogs (0-0) square off at 1 p.m. at the Teague Special Event. ACU will then play host to the Miners (0-0) at 6 p.m. TCU and UTEP play the day's first dual at 9 a.m. Admission is free for all matches.
ACU began its spring season last weekend in Indiana, where the Wildcats won 17 matches over three days of competition at the IU Winter Invitational. The Wildcats were a combined 7-7 in singles as they followed a 2-5 round vs. the Hoosiers with a 5-2 effort against Marquette. In doubles competition, ACU went 3-3 vs. Indiana, 5-1 against Marquette and 2-4 vs. Colorado.

Whitney Williams was ACU's winningest doubles competitor last weekend, going 3-1 with
Lucile Pothier and 1-1 alongside senior
Erin Walker. The Anchorage, Alaska, native also was the only Wildcat to win both her singles matches as she bested both Indiana's Paula Gutierrez, 4-6, 7-5, (10-6), and Marquette's Diana Tokar, 6-1, 6-2.
Williams received a honorable mention for Southland Conference Player of the Week in recognition of her efforts.
ACU was a 4-3 winner at UTEP last spring as Pothier rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to beat the Miners' Daphen Visscher, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. The Wildcats also won the doubles point received wins from former Wildcats
Kaysie Hermsdorf and
Nada Marjanovic at No. 2 and 3 singles.
ACU and TCU are meeting for the first time since the Wildcats jumped into the NCAA DI ranks in 2014. The Horned Frogs went 16-7 a year ago and made it to the second round of the NCAA Championships, falling 4-0 to No. 7 Miami.
