ABILENE - Abilene Christian soccer returns home to Elmer Gray Stadium for the first time in three weeks Friday to begin a two-game Southland Conference homestand vs. Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana. Kick off against the Colonels is at 7 p.m., while Sunday's match vs. the Lady Lions is set for 1 p.m.
Live stats and a video stream will be offered for both matches. This season's soccer broadcast team is MK Rotenberry and Juan Nunez.
The Wildcats started their fourth season of Southland Conference competition last Saturday with a big 4-0 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. ACU received four goals from four different players, including defender
Kelsie Roberts, who booted in her first career goal in the 32nd minute off a
Chloe Fifer corner kick, and
Chelsea Reedy, who buried a 25-yard stike into the top shelf during the 64th minute.
Senior
Leslie Snider also scored her second goal of the year, tying three of her teammates for the team lead, and junior
Megan Baer came off the bench to score her first goal of season two minutes before halftime.
Defensively, the Wildcats limited the Islanders to 11 shots and senior goalkeeper
Sydney Newton was forced to make just four saves in pitching the sixth shutout of her career. Newton earned her second Southland Conference Player of the Week award in recognition of her performance, and Roberts was honored as the league's top Defensive Player of the Week.
Nicholls enters Friday's match at 3-2-1 following last week's scoreless tie at Lamar. During the non-conference season the Colonels beat ULL, 3-1, and whipped Southern, 8-0, and Grambling, 10-0.
Southeastern evened its season record at 4-4-1 after winning its Southland opener, 3-1, last Friday vs. McNeese. The Lions this fall also have beaten Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Southern.
