COLLEGE STATION – Two big innings were all Texas A&M needed Tuesday to subdue the ACU Wildcats as the third-ranked Aggies improved to 5-0 all-time against ACU with a 10-4 win over the Wildcats in non-conference baseball action at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 11-20 overall, while the Aggies improve to 26-7. ACU will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference series that is set to begin Friday at 6 p.m.

The Aggies – who have won four straight – scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead before ACU starting pitcher Nate Cole settled in, retiring 10 straight Aggies and keeping his team in the game. ACU got a bit of momentum in the top of the sixth inning when Aaron Draper drew a two-out walk and scored when pinch-hitter Heath Beasley doubled over the head of left fielder J.B. Moss to drive in the Wildcats' first run of the game, cutting A&M's lead to 4-1.

But the Aggies responded with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth to chase Cole from the game. Hunter Melton led off with a single and went to third on a single by Ryne Birk. Michael Barash then singled to drive in Melton to make it 5-1 before Joel Davis tripled to plate Birk and Barash to push the lead to 7-1.

Nick Choruby singled to drive in Davis and then he stole second and went to third on an error before scoring on a sacrifice fly to make it 9-1. Pinch-hitter Ronnie Gideon had a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh against Brandon Lambright to make it 10-1.

The Wildcats answered with three runs in the top of the when Beasley singled and went to third on a ground-rule double by Russell Crippen. Beasley scored on a wild pitch and Crippen scored on a sacrifice fly by Mark Pearson. Kyle Carroll then put the finishing touches on the scoring for both teams with a solo home run to left field, his second home run of the season.

Cole absorbed the loss for the Wildcats to fall to 1-4 on the season, while Mitchell Kilkenny (1-0) got the win on a night when the Aggies used seven different pitchers.
