ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's tennis remains on the road Saturday for a pair of dual matches against New Mexico State and UTEP. The Wildcats will first play in Las Cruces, N.M. at 10 a.m. (CT) before dipping 50 minutes south to face the Miners at 3 p.m. (CT).
ACU enters this week at 6-4. UTEP is 3-4 and New Mexico State is 2-3.
ACU last faced UTEP and the Aggies in late February of 2014 and won both matches on the road, 5-2, and 4-3. The Wildcats won the doubles point vs. the Miners and captured singles victories at No. 1, 4, 5 and 6.
The following day in Las Cruces, ACU rallied from a 3-2 deficit to beat the Aggies. The Wildcats again won in doubles but then lost three of the first four singles matches. Sophomore
Nada Marjanovic tied the score at 3-3 with a 7-6, 7-6 decision at No. 5, and then
Erin Walker won it, coming back from a set down to beat Denise Van Der Ben at No. 3, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Walker and Van Der Ben were tied at 4-4 in the third set when Marjanovic completed her victory over Annemieke Witte.
Marjanovic is leading the Wildcats this spring with nine singles victories despite having her six-match winning streak recently snapped Sunday vs. Domenica Gonzalez, 2-6, 7-5, 2-6, of No. 16 Texas A&M.
The Aggies handed ACU a 7-0 loss on Valentine's Day, but struggled to pitch that shutout as both Marjanovic and sophomore
Lucile Pothier pushed their opposition to a third set. Two doubles matches were decided by a 6-3 score, and at No. 3, the Wildcat duo of Marjanovic and sophomore Andrea Cook were leading 5-4 when their match was suspended.
