COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Abilene Christian women's tennis suffered a hard-fought 7-0 loss at 16th-ranked Texas A&M Sunday on the courts of the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 6-4, while the Aggies improved to 5-3.
A&M won at No. 1 and 2 doubles by the same 6-3 score, but at No. 3 the Aggie team of Domenica Gonzalez and Mason Strickland was trailing senior
Nada Marjanovic and sophomore
Andrea Crook, 5-4, when that match was suspended.
Strickland and Gonzalez both were able to finish their singles matches over Crook and Marjanovic with wins at No. 6 and 3. Strickland battled past Crook, 7-6 (6), 6-4, and Gonzalez hung on to beat Marjanovic, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, snappnig the senior's six-match winning streak.
Marjanovic leads ACU this spring with a 9-2 singles record.
Sophomore
Lucile Pothier was the Wildcats' last chance for a point, but she fell in three sets to Ines Dehez, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
Jordan Henry also lost a close match at No. 5 to Anna Mamalat, 7-5, 6-3, and Kaysie Hersmdorf was doubled up by Rutuja Bhosale at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3.
ACU's No. 1
Erin Walker lost her top-line match to Rachel Pierson, 6-2, 6-1.
The Wildcats will look to rebound from this defeat Saturday with a doubleheader in El Paso vs. New Mexico State (10 a.m. CT) and UTEP (3 p.m. CT).
