Women’s tennis blanks Butler Bulldogs to conclude Hoosier State trip

ABILENE – Following three days of round-robin competition at the Indiana Winter Invitational, Abilene Christian's women's tennis team visited Indianapolis and the Butler Bubble, where the Wildcats blanked the Bulldogs for the second straight time Monday, 7-0.
 
The win lifted ACU's early-season record to 2-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-2.
 
Erin Walker, Lucile Pothier, Whitney Williams and Jordan Henry all won in straight sets at the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 positions. At No. 4, Nada Marjanovic rallied from a set down to beat Rachel Sutton, 4-6, 6-2, and at No. 2 Kaysie Hermsdorf held off Konstantina Adami, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
 
Doubles went as smoothly as possible for the Wildcats against a Big East team. Walker and Williams won 6-1 on the top line. Pothier and Hermsdorf doubled up their opponents, 6-3, and Marjanovic made quick work at No. 3, 6-2, playing with newcomer Andrea Crook.
 
ACU's three-day stay earlier this weekend at Indiana proved to be challenging at times as the eight Wildcat competitors combined for a 4-12 singles record and 9-12 mark in doubles.
 
Playing against the likes of Indiana, Marquette and Wright State, no individual Wildcat posted a singles record better than 1-1. However, Hermsdorf went 5-1 in doubles and reached the finals of the main doubles bracket with Pothier, where they lost 6-3 to the Marquette team of Silvia Ambrosio and Erin Gebes.
 
Hermsdorf and her doubles teammates defeated two teams each from Marquette and Indiana and one from Wright State.
 
Walker won twice alongside both Hermsdorf and Whitney Williams in finishing 4-1 on the doubles court this weekend.
 
ACU tennis returns to action a week from Tuesday, Jan. 26 with a doubleheader in Dallas vs. Dallas Baptist and SMU. Match times in the Metroplex are 12 and 5 p.m.
