TORONTO - Abilene Christian alum and defensive lineman Aston Whiteside Wednesday was named one of the CFL's Shaw Top Performers for Week 5 of the 2015 season after helping the Ottawa REDBLACKS (3-2) defeat the reigning Grey Cup Champions, the Calgary Stampeders, 29-26 in overtime last Friday.

A native of Vernon, Texas, Whiteside recorded two tackles, notched a pair of sacks, forced two fumbles and added a fumble recovery in the contest.

In the second quarter, Whiteside wrapped up Stampeders' quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell for his first sack and in the process forced a fumble as well as recovered the football. The turnover turned into three points after Delbert Alvarado kicked a 25-yard field goal for the REDBLACKS.

Whiteside, number two on the all-time sacks list at Abilene Christian University, also made a pivotal play in overtime. On the first play of the extra session, Whiteside notched his second sack and forced a fumble for Keith Shologan to recover the football, resulting in Alvarado hitting the game-winning kick for the REDBLACKS.

Two other players also received Shaw Top Performer nods; however, ACU and Ottawa fans can help Whiteside earn the title of Shaw Fan's Choice of the Week by receiving the most retweets on twitter for this tweet.

Ottawa will have three of its upcoming games televised on ESPN2: Friday, Aug. 7 vs. Montreal, Saturday, Aug. 15 vs. Calgary and Sunday, Aug. 30 vs. Saskatchewan.
