Box Score NACOGDOCHES — The ACU Wildcats collected just four hits Sunday afternoon as Stephen F. Austin completed a series win over the Wildcats with a 3-0 win at Jaycees Field.
The Lumberjacks won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 7-6, in front of a 6-2 win by ACU in the second game of the twinbill. Then the 'Jacks rode the strong pitching of starter Jarred Greene and the SFA bullpen to a shutout win in the series finale.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 10-31 on the season and 8-13 in Southland Conference play. The Lumberjacks — still vying for the eighth seed in next month's conference tournament — are now 15-29 and 9-14. ACU will be back in action this weekend with a three-game series at New Orleans.
The Lumberjacks scored single runs in the second, sixth and seventh innings to take the victory, hanging a loss on ACU staring pitcher
Garrett deMeyere, who is now 2-4. deMeyere threw well, allowing five hits, four walks and two runs over 5 2/3 innings of work.
Nick Palacios,
Mack Morgan and
Nate Cole worked the final 2 1/3 innings of the game out of the ACU bullpen, allowing just two hits and one run.
The Wildcats had baserunners in each of the first seven innings, but left seven runners stranded in the game. ACU had its best chance to score in the sixth inning when
Taylor Waters led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by
Tyler Eager.
Marcelle Carter then sinked to right field, but Waters had to be held at third base giving the Wildcats runners at first and third with one out.
Russell Crippen then laid down a squeeze bunt that was fielded by relief pitcher Travis Stone. He threw to the plate to get Waters, but the Wildcats still had the tying runs on base with two outs. Stone, however, got
Mason Spracklen to strike out swinging to end the inning. The Wildcats never threatened in their final three at-bats.
