COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday night as the No. 1-ranked Aggies knocked off the hard-luck ACU Wildcats, 3-2, at Blue Bell Park at Olsen Field.

The Wildcats are now 8-26 overall, while the Aggies improve to 34-3 on the season. ACU is back in action this weekend when it hosts Sam Houston State in a three-game Southland Conference series that starts Friday at 6 p.m. at Crutcher Scott Field.

ACU has now lost four one-run games to top-20 opposition this season, including three times in the last nine days. Last Monday, the Wildcats dropped a 4-3 decision at home to then-No. 2 TCU, and Tuesday night at home they lost 7-6 to No. 19 Texas Tech.

With the game tied 2-2 and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, A&M cleanup hitter Logan Taylor lined an 0-2 pitch from reliever Ladgie Zotyka into right field for an RBI single to give the Aggies a 3-2 lead. The Wildcats then went up and down in order in both the eighth and ninth innings as the Aggies improved to 4-0 all-time against the Wildcats.

ACU starting pitcher Nate Cole went five solid innings, allowing five hits and two runs while walking four and striking out nine batters. The Aggies entered the game averaging just six strikeouts per game, but were rung up 11 times on the night by ACU pitchers.
