ABILENE - Abilene Christian's women's tennis team moved one game over .500 in Southland Conference play following its 5-2 win over Lamar Sunday at the Eager Tennis Pavilion. Unfortunately, its male counterparts couldn't duplicate that result, losing 6-1 to the Cardinals before rebounding with a 6-1 win over Texas-Permian Basin.

The men's lone double winner today was sophomore Nico Agritelley, who defeated Jeandre Hoogenboezem at No. 3 in comeback fashion, 3-6, 6-2, 10-4, before toppling the Falcons' Thomas Rice at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2.

The two singles victories pushed Agritelley's winning streak to five and give him an overall record of 17-7 and 5-0 mark at No. 2. He also is undefeated against the Southland Conference in singles play and is 8-2 over his last 10 matches.

All his teammates, however, lost in straight sets to the Cardinals, and at No. 1 doubles Agritelley and Guilherme Gesser lost 8-5 to Hoogenboezem and Nikita Lis. The Wildcats' also lost, 8-2, at No. 3, but were ahead 6-5 at No. 2 when the doubles point was clinched by the Cardinals.

It would take several more hours for the ACU men, but they eventually left the courts victorious tonight following a big 6-1 win over their old NCAA DII rivals from UTPB. The Wildcats won all but one of their singles matches in straight sets, and swept the doubles point by scores of 8-4, 8-2, 8-2 to even their combined doubles record at 31-31.

The women's team, meanwhile, continued their winning ways against the Southland by defeating Lamar for the second-straight season, 5-2, which lifted its overall and conference records to 10-6 and 5-4.

The Wildcats once again were strong in doubles, picking up an 8-1 win at No. 1 from senior Brittney Reed and junior Kaysie Hermsdorf, and a victory at No. 2 from sophomore Erin Walker and freshman Whitney Williams.

Hermsdorf's and Reed's win pushed them to 6-1 against the league, 10-2 at No. 1 and 15-2 overall. Walker and Williams also are 6-1 vs. the Southland and 7-3 in their last 10 decisions.

In singles competition, the Wildcats received a nice win at No. 2 from Walker who beat Anna Spengler in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, in addition to three straight wins from the bottom end of their the lineup.

Walker is now 5-1 at No. 2 and 11-6 overall, but keeping pace with her is freshman Lucile Pothier, who handed Hanna Elfving a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 5. Williams also won for the second time this weekend and ninth time this spring with a 6-3, 7-6 triumph over Carolina Maso, while at No. 6 junior Nada Marjanovic conquered Stephanie Marchena, 7-6, 6-3, for win No. 12 that leads all Wildcats.

The men's regular season reaches its conclusion Thursday with a doubleheader vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Hardin-Simmons. The women also will face the Islanders Thursday before concluding their conference season at Central Arkansas Saturday.

ACU's doubleheader vs. Corpus Christi starts right after chapel services at 11:44 a.m. Free hot dogs and Dr. Pepper will be served.
