Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored 10 runs over a three-inning span Saturday to turn a close game into a blowout as the Islanders knocked off ACU, 12-2, in a Southland Conference baseball game at Chapman Field.
The loss drops ACU to 8-23 overall and 6-8 in the Southland Conference, while the Islanders push past the .500 mark to 16-15 overall and 6-8 in the league. The Islanders are now 5-0 all-time against ACU after sweeping a three-game series from ACU last season in Abilene. The teams will conclude their three-game series Sunday with ACU looking to snap a three-game losing streak overall and a five-game losing skid against the Islanders.
Corpus got on the board with two runs in the third inning and then scored three in the fifth, four in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull away from the Wildcats.
Jordan Lee, who had another great day at the plate, led the Islanders offensively. The senior finished the day 3 for 4 with three hits including a two-run home run in the fifth. The homer marks the second in as many days and the third of the year for Islanders' leadoff hitter and left fielder.
ACU starting pitcher
Aaron Mason took the loss to fall to 0-6 on the season, allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings of work. Corpus Christi starting pitcher Thomas Belicek allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Islanders and improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Wildcats' only two runs came in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by catcher
Alex Copeland that drove in
Tyler Eager and
Aaron Draper. ACU was able to collect only five singles against Corpus Christi pitching, including the two-RBI single by Copeland. Other Wildcats with a hit in the game were
