Reeves adds five commitments to 2017 softball roster

ABILENE – Abilene Christian head softball coach Bobby Reeves Thursday announced the signing of five Texas high school standouts to a National Letter of Intent. Joining the Wildcats in time for the 2016-17 school year will be Blair Clayton, Sidney Holman, Krystian Osbourn, Victoria Poullard and Emily Womble.
Reeves, who is at the start of his sixth season with the Wildcats, plucked these signees out of some fertile Big 12 and SEC recruiting grounds. Holman and Womble were raised outside Austin. Clayton catches for Caldwell High School, which is 30 minutes west of Texas A&M. Poullard plays up the road from TCU at North Side High School, and Osbourn competes for Bandera High School – an hour northwest of San Antonio.
Four of the five commitments with the exception of Clayton have experience pitching and will bring depth to a roster that already will feature right-handed hurlers Hannah Null and Casey-May Huff, and southpaw Allison Turner.
Holman is the only full-time pitcher within this crop and has posted eye-popping numbers over the past three seasons for the Belton Tigers. The other four, meanwhile, have absolutely crushed the ball behind career high school batting averages ranging between .400 and .600. By the time they arrive on campus they'll be competing for at-bats against a seasoned batting order that will primarily be composed of juniors and seniors such as All-Southland Conference honorees Alyson Bishoff, Taylor Brown, Peyton Hedrick and Holly Neese.
"I am very excited about our class … these five young ladies bring a lot of athleticism to our team," said Reeves. "They are very versatile and I'm looking for them to make an already solid team even stronger.
"Clayton will fill the vacancy left behind the plate by (senior) Cara Hoover and Sidney Holman will just fit right in to our rotation. She throws extremely hard with great movement.
"Victoria (Tori) is another player with a great amount of athleticism who can play middle infield, corner, and outfield. She also possesses tremendous speed and power that will allow her to push for a starting spot.
"Emily is someone who has potential to help us at two or three different positions. Her strength is at the corner, but has speed enough to play some outfield. She is also a great down-ball pitcher who will compliment the staff; it's a bonus to have someone who works well down in the zone.
"Krystian Osbourn is a true utility player that will see time at the corners and pitching, but her strength is with her bat. She will definitely help us in a lot of ways offensively."
Biographies of each of the four recruits are listed below in alphabetical order.
Blair Clayton | 5-11 | C | R/R | Caldwell, Texas / Caldwell High School
Clayton is a four-year letter winning catcher for the Hornets, which won the 2015 bi-district, area and regional championships in addition to consecutive district titles in 2013 and 2014.
For her part in the team's success, Clayton garnered a MVP crown in 2014 in addition to spots on the all district first and second teams. She also is a two-year All-Brazos Valley honoree and has won multiple tournament MVP awards in Franklin and Caldwell.
A three-year first team all-academic honoree and member of the National Honor Society, Clayton plans to study kinesiology and physical therapy at ACU.
Sidney Holman | 5-10 | P | R/R | Temple, Texas / Belton HS
In three full seasons with the Tigers, Holman has posted a 2.19 earned-run average with 636 strikeouts in 472.0 innings pitched. She also has registered 28 games of 10 or more punch-outs.
Holman has won 58 games since her freshman season, after which she was named the 2013 District Newcomer of the Year. As a sophomore Holman was named Defensive MVP of the district and received an honorable mention citation form the Texas Sports Writers Association. This past season the state's sports writers again honored Holman –the district co-MVP – tabbing her to its all-state third team, and she also made the TGCA's all-state squad.
Holman's teams have won the bi-district championship each of the past three years and her 2015 club went deep into the regional tournament.
Holman hopes to teach and coach following her career at ACU. Her uncle, Jeff Holman, played football at Oklahoma Panhandle State from 2002-06.
Krystian Osbourn | 5-6 | P / UTL | R/R | Bandera, Texas / Bandera HS

She also can pitch as well as evident by her 1.60 ERA posted during her junior season, after which the team captain claimed District and Team MVP honors.
Osbourn is a three time all-district selection who has led the Bulldogs to a pair of bi-district championships.
An Academic All-District honoree, Osbourn is a member of her school's National Honor Society and plans to major in advertising / public relations at ACU.
Victoria Poullard | 5-5 | INF / C / P | R/R | Fort Worth, Texas / North Side High School
A do-it all player who has experience pitching, catching and patrolling the middle infield, Poullard's coaches and teammates have seen her offensive numbers dramatically rise with each passing season.
Poullard hit .430 as a freshman in 2013, .581 as a sophomore and a remarkable .615 as a junior this past spring. She also has totaled 80 runs, driven in 74 and counted a dozen round trippers among her 92 base hits.
Poullard's offensive output have earned her First Team All-State and All-District title, and her work in the classroom merited her receiving the Ann Brenan Award for U.S. History.
Poullard is a member of her school's 'A' honor roll and its National Honor Society. She plans to study biology at ACU and hopes to one day become an orthopedic surgeon.
Emily Womble | 5-8 | INF / P | R/R | Round Rock, Texas / Hyde Park High School
A gifted pitcher and infielder, Womble enters her senior year at Hyde Park with a .600 career batting average, 2.00 ERA, and a solid .975 fielding percentage when handling the hot corner.
Womble has led her school to the TAPPS playoffs all three years and in 2015 the Panthers went as a far as the semifinals.
At the end of last season Womble made her first TAPPS All-State First Team and was selected to its All Tournament Team. She's also been tabbed TAPPS First Team All-District on three occasions and was a TAPPS All-State Honorable Mention following her freshman and sophomore seasons.
The Austin American Statesmen included Womble among its Fabulous Freshmen in 2013, and the next year she made the newspaper's All-Centex First Team.
