FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference Wednesday announced that 84 of Abilene Christian's fall student-athletes - those competing in cross country, football, soccer and voleyball - were named to its Commissioner's Honor Roll. Twenty of these Wildcats who made the list posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.
Among the more recognizable ACU's honorees were women's cross country sophomore and Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year Diana Garcia Munoz, and previous Southland Conference All-Academic team selections Kelsie Roberts (soccer), Neely Borger (volleyball), Angel Lopez (football) and Nick Richardson (football).
Roberts was among the 20 Wildcats who recorded a 4.0 GPA along with teammates Megan Baer, Emily Duke, Madison Goldston, Chantal Kinsey, Baylee Mitchell, Leslie Snider, Emily Sumrall and Natalie Throneberry.
Football had four of its players finish the fall with a 4.0: Rob Boyd, Reese Gwin, Nathaniel Johnson and Cody King, while cross country was represented by Daniel Block, Ryan Cleary, Reid Rivers, Landa Dowdy, Marina Guerrero and twin sisters Alexandria and Michaela Hackett.
Wildcat soccer had close to 90 percent of its roster (25 of 28 ) make the Commissioner's Honor Roll, while seven players each made it on there from volleyball, men's cross country and women's cross country.
Football had 37 competitors make the honor in its first year of eligibility. The Wildcats were left off last year's honor roll because they were classified as a FCS Independent.
