
ACU names its April student-athletes of the month

ABILENE – Members of the ACU Athletics Department earlier this month selected Luke Carpenter, Brittney Reed, Lyndi Smith and Luke Woods as its April Student-Athletes of the Month in recognition of their recent academic achievements.
The Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union sponsors the monthly award.
· Luke Carpenter (Golf / Jr. / Little Rock, Ark.): A previous ACU Student-Athlete of the Month in February of 2013, Carpenter recently finished his junior season during which he competed at seven tournaments. Carpenter's list of academic achievements includes being named to ACU's Dean's List on two occasions and four times to the ACU's Athletics Honor Roll. Additionally, the 2012 Lone Star Conference honorable mention was nominated this week for CoSIDA Academic All-America and Southland Conference All-Academic. Carpenter is a finance major.
· Brittney Reed (Tennis / Jr. / Richland, Wash.): Reed and the ACU women's tennis team completed its first year of NCAA DI competition last weekend, finishing with an 18-6 overall record and fourth-place finish in the Southland Conference of 9-3. Reed helped the Wildcats by winning 12 singles matches between the No. 2 and 3 positions and 19 doubles contests alongside freshman Erin Walker. A 2013 ITA all-America and USTA/ITA regional doubles champion, Reed has been named twice to ACU's Dean's Honor Roll and to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll following the 2012 and 2013 academic years. Reed is majoring in nutrition.
· Lyndi Smith (Softball / Sr. / Uvalde, Texas): Smith will complete her illustrious collegiate career this weekend when the Wildcats play host to Incarnate Word Saturday and Sunday at Poly Wells Field. Smith enters this three-game series with the second-most home runs (11) and RBI (44) in the Southland Conference to go along with a .338 batting average and .628 slugging percentage. In previous seasons, the psychology major was a second team all-Lone Star Conference selection in 2013 and a third-team honoree in 2012. Smith, who is three home runs away from tying Katie Bryan's (2002-05) program record of 38, has 137 career RBI and lifetime batting average of .341.
· Luke Woods (Track and Field / So. / Houston, Texas): A second-year multi-athlete with the Wildcats' track and field program, Woods won the Lone Star Conference' heptathlon title as a freshman and was runner-up in this event at the Southland Conference Championships held in late February. In his lone decathlon appearance of this outdoor season, Woods placed third at the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State with 6,594 points. An engineering major with a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average, Woods was named to the ACU's Dean's Honor Roll, ACU Athletics Honor Roll and Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll following the 2012-13 season.
