Wildcats head to College Station to take on Aggies

COLLEGE STATION – ACU will face a Southeastern Conference baseball team for the first time in 14 seasons Wednesday night when the Wildcats take on the Aggies of Texas A&M at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and can be heard locally on 98.1 FM The Ticket.

ACU's young squad is 12-20 overall with narrow losses to Utah of the Pac-12 (9-8), Oklahoma of the Big 12 (4-1 and 3-1) and Texas A&M of the Big 12 (6-2). A&M, meanwhile, enters the game at 22-15 overall, but 7-8 in the Southeastern Conference after taking two of three games from No. 7 Vanderbilt last weekend in Nashville, Tenn.

Wednesday night's game marks the first meeting between Abilene Christian and Texas A&M since the Aggies won both ends of a doubleheader in February 1976, 9-3 and 3-2. ACU is 0-5 all-time against current members of the Southeastern Conference: 0-2 against Texas A&M and Arkansas and 0-1 against Ole Miss. ACU hasn't played an SEC squad since Feb. 17, 2000, when the Wildcats dropped a 9-3 decision to Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss.

Senior catcher Seth Spivey leads the Southland Conference in batting average at .367, and also ranks in the league's top five in triples (fifth with three) and total bases (fourth with 68). After a hot start to his season, freshman third baseman Brandon Grudzielanek carries a .357 average going into the Texas A&M game (good for fifth in the Southland). The Wildcats are now sixth in the league in hitting at .287.
