Emily Conrad won eight of her final nine points to complete her comeback and give the Abilene Christian women's tennis team a 4-3 victory over Cleveland State at the Teague Event Center.
The win lifted ACU's season record to 8-2, while the Vikings of the Horizon League fell to 13-12.
Conrad won the match 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 after Bensimon's final shot hit off the top of the net and landed in the doubles alley. Her victory was her fourth of the season at the No. 6 position and pushed the Wildcats' winning streak to four.
ACU entered singles up 1-0 after recording its six doubles sweep of the spring. Conrad and her teammate
Nada Marjanovic won their match at No. 3 over Bensimon and Kara Sherwood, 8-3, while junior
Brittney Reed and freshman
Erin Walker doubled up Alex Bush and Princess Gbadamosi, 8-4. Sisters Micah and
Kaysie Hermsdorf also kept their unbeaten streak alive at No. 1 with an 8-5 triumph over Mathilde Orange and Alex Power. The Hermsdorf sisters are now 9-0 this spring in dual play, and as a team, the Wildcats are 23-6 in doubles competition.
Winning alongside Conrad in singles were
Micah Hermsdorf at No. 1 and Marjanovic at No. 5. Marjanovic's 6-3, 6-2 win over Gbadamosi was her fourth-consecutive win and 10th of the season to lead all Wildcats, while
Micah Hermsdorf improved to 8-2 at the top position with her 6-1, 6-2 decision over Lauren Golick.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday at noon for a Southland Conference dual at Incarnate Word, which kicks off a four-match Spring Break road trip. However, tomorrow's outdoor forecast does not look promising as it calls for rain with a afternoon high temperature of 48 degrees.
