ABILENE - Abilene Christian tennis coach Hutton Jones Thursday announced that Oklahoma City native and Southmoore High School senior Jordan Henry will be joining the Wildcats' women's tennis team next fall.
Ranked as the No. 1 player in her state by TennisRecruiting.net, Henry follows in the footsteps of other top Oklahoma recruits who have come to play for ACU. She attained her highest national ranking of 178 last month.
A three-year team captain and 2014 Oklahoma City Player of the Year, Henry posted a 29-2 overall record at No. 1 singles as a junior last spring en route to finishing as the runner-up at states. She also won the regional championship over Madison Westby, a five-star recruit who is currently a freshman at USC.
Henry won her first regional title as a sophomore in 2013 behind a 27-3 record and went 36-6 at No. 1 singles during her freshman year of 2012, finishing as the regional runner-up. She placed third at the 2013 state meet.
"Jordan Henry has the heart and passion that we look for in a recruit," said Jones, who has guided ACU's tennis program since 1997. "Her game is ready to go to the next level."
The USTA ranked Henry as high as fifth in the Missouri Valley and qualified for her region's Fed Cup team this past summer. The region also has twice honored Henry with its Sportsmanship Award.
Henry will join a roster next year that's expected to lose only one senior, Brittney Reed, while returning several multi-year starters, including Kaysie Hermsdorf, Erin Walker and Nada Marjanovic. The Wildcats also will begin to start several youngsters this spring as sophomore Ansley Boarman and freshmen Carli Knezevich, Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams all experienced successful fall campaigns.
The Wildcats once again start their spring season in Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Invitational the weekend of Jan. 16-18. Last year's field included teams from Oregon, Harvard and Marquette.
