ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The ACU Wildcats couldn't sustain the momentum from their win over Texas Tech earlier in the week as they fell in straight sets Friday night to Northern Arizona in the first match of the Lobo Invitational at The Pit.
The Lumberjacks (6-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season to take a 25-19, 26-24, 25-11 win over the Wildcats, who fell to 3-3 with the loss. ACU -- which will play New Mexico and Towson on Saturday -- entered the match coming off Tuesday's 3-1 home win over Texas Tech.
The Wildcats hung around with the Lumberjacks in the first set before eventually falling, 25-19. ACU bounced back in the second set and held a steady lead throughout until a late Lumberjack rally turned the tide.
NAU trailed 21-16 following a kill by Corrie Reeder, but the Lumberjacks strung together seven straight points to grab a 23-21 lead. ACU, though, rallied for back-to-back points to tie the set, and the teams then traded points to make it 24-24. The Lumberjacks then put the set away on a kill by Sydney Kemper and then an attack error by ACU's Jenny Loerch.
The Lumberjacks then ran away with the third set as they jumped out to a quick 16-6 lead on their way to the win and the sweep.
ACU hit just .019 in the match with 25 kills and 23 errors on 105 attacks. Loerch had eight kills, while Neely Borger had five kills.
