Hach, Mongin and Reed receive all-America honors from ITA

ABILENE – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association Friday released its 2013 final rankings and making the organization's list of all-Americas were Abilene Christian sophomore Brittney Reed and seniors Hans Hach and Julia Mongin.

To earn all-America honors, a singles player must finish in the top 20 of the final ITA rankings, while a doubles pairing must finish in the top 10.

Hach posted an 18-7 record at No. 1 singles and finished with a No. 6 national ranking in receiving the fifth all-America citation of his career. The native of Culiacan, Mexico, has been an all-America singles player each of the last three years and earned recognition in doubles following the 2011 (with Jake Hendrie) and 2012 campaigns (with Nick Plum).

This spring, Hach and sophomore Guilherme Gesser finished 17th nationally with a record of 7-7.

The ITA honored Hach earlier this month, selecting him as its South Central Region Senior Player of the Year, and in April he was named Lone Star Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. He won a third USTA/ITA regional singles title last fall and was subsequently presented with the association's James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award.

Mongin completed her ACU career with six all-America honors after finishing the season ranked 14th in singles and third in doubles with Reed – a first-time all-America. Mongin has earned all-America status three times in singles and three in doubles, the first two with Jaclyn Walker in 2010 and 2011.

Reed and Mongin went 14-3 at the top position, which included a 4-1 mark against nationally ranked opponents and a regional doubles championship. After Mongin returned from injury at the start of the NCAA Championships, she and Reed won their first three postseason matches by a combined score of 24-5. One of those victories came against the third-ranked Columbus State tandem of Paola Cigui and Carolin Weikard.

Reed and Mongin had a nine-match winning streak snapped in the NCAA semifinals by the top-ranked BYU-Hawai'i duo of Annie Hwang and Sherry Liu. Their other two defeats came against teams from D-I Northwestern State and fourth-ranked Barry.

One of Reed's and Mongin's biggest victories was an 8-3 decision over Nadia Ravita and Caitlin McGraw of 53rd-ranked Kentucky in Lexington.

Mongin started the spring ranked fifth after winning the regional singles championship and remained ranked among the ITA's top 15 despite missing four weeks in April with her injury. Her last decision was a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over No. 47 Amanda Moberg of Cameron on April 4. She later missed the conference championships and three of her four NCAA matches were left unfinished.

After losing four of her first seven matches at the start of spring, Mongin responded with a 10-1 run that included victories over No. 16 Marie Boura of No. 28 Fresno Pacific and No. 38 Alicia Perez of No. 32 Tarleton State. She finished the year 13-6 in singles and 21-4 in doubles, totals which garnered her a third straight Lone Star Conference Player of the Year award.

A native of Jaunay-Clan, France, Mongin has been named all-conference eight times and is a five-time regional champion. She received ACU's Paul Goad Award earlier this month as the school's top female athlete and also was named the ITA's South Central Region Senior Player of the Year.
