Wildcats Dominate TexAnns, 8-1, in Final Regular Season Meeting

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Abilene Christian's nationally ranked women's tennis team maintained its dominance over the South Central Region following its 8-1 win Wednesday night at No. 32 Tarleton State. The TexAnns (8-8) were ranked second in the region according to last week's poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Tonight's victory was ACU's sixth-straight and lifted its season and conference records to 18-5 and 4-0. The Wildcats will play their final LSC regular-season match next Wednesday at home vs. Cameron.

ACU also is a perfect 6-0 vs. its region foes and along the way has beaten regionally ranked squads from Oklahoma Christian (8-1), Midwestern State (6-3), St. Mary's (6-3) and Incarnate Word (9-0). The Wildcats' region mark also includes wins from Kingsville and tonight's match at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts.

All three of ACU's doubles teams were winners as were five of its singles players.

Senior Julia Mongin won her fifth-straight match in both doubles and singles. She and partner Brittney Reed first edged the team of Alicia Perez and Karla Martinez-Hamda, 8-6, and then she took care of 38th-ranked Perez in singles, 6-0, 7-5.

At No. 2 doubles, the all-America pairing of Hannah Kelley and Micah Hermsdorf beat Melanie Barnes and Ivana Zecevic, 8-4, to run their winning streak to four, while at No. 3, the tandem of Laura Mongin and Kaysie Hermsdorf kept its undefeated streak alive at 8-0 after shutting out the team of Makenzie Mitchell and Marina Rull.

Laura Mongin missed ACU's last five matches due to injury, but seemed to pick up right where she left off as tonight she recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Ivana Zecevic for her 12th win of the season.

Also winning in singles tonight were Reed at No. 3, Kelley at No. 5 and Kaysie Hermsdorf at No. 6.

The Wildcats return to action next Tuesday at 4 p.m. when they play host to their crosstown rivals from McMurry.
