SAN ANTONIO - Abilene Christian's nationally third-ranked women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to five and improved to 17-5 on the season following Sunday's doubleheader sweep of St. Mary's and Texas-San Antonio.
The Wildcats beat their South Central regional rivals from St. Mary's, 6-3, before trouncing the Roadrunners for the second straight year, 6-1.
Kaysie Hermsdorf,
Hannah Kelley and
Julia Mongin all went 2-0 in singles today. Hermsdorf and Kelley each earned one win at the No. 4 and 5 positions, while Mongin followed a win at No. 2 vs. St. Mary's
Felicity Delgado with a victory at No. 1 over UTSA's Jacobea Junger. Delgado played for the Wildcats last season as a freshman.
Mongin also was a two-time winner in doubles with partner
Brittney Reed. The Wildcat duo started their day with an 8-1 win over St. Mary's Ariana Saldana and Mariana Rong, and then beat UTSA's Isabelle Jonsson and Alena Shichkova, 8-6.
Also winning for ACU vs. the Roadrunners was the No. 2 doubles pairing of
Micah Hermsdorf and
Hannah Kelley, which defeated Junger and Daniela Garcia-Diaz, 8-3.
Earlier in the day, Kelley teamed up with freshman
Nada Marjanovic to beat the St. Mary's No. 3 duo of Valentine Lambrechts and Joanie Bryant, 8-1.
Micah Hermsdorf played at No. 1 vs. the Rattlers for the first time this season, but lost to 28th-ranked Rong, 6-0, 6-3, in a rematch of their south central regional semifinal match from last fall.
Micah, however, would win her match vs. the Roadrunners as would Reed at No. 3, Kelley at No. 4 and
Kaysie Hermsdorf at No. 5. Kaysie's win gave her team lead for most singles victories with 12. Four of her teammates are tied with 11.
The Wildcats return to action Wednesday for matches at Howard Payne and Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State.
