ABILENE - Senior
Carter Hahn remains undefeated on the season at 3-0 after striking out five Aggies through 7.1 innings, leading Abilene Christian to a fast-paced 8-2 win against Cameron Saturday night at Crutcher Scott Field.
Both Hahn and tonight's game moved efficiently as the transfer from Lamar finished with 90 pitches, while the game wrapped up in just a little over two hours.
Hahn faced the minimum three batters three times and was also helped along the way by two inning-ending double plays in the second and seventh.
Hahn was finally chased after giving up three hits and a run to start the eighth, but then junior
Brady Rodriguez came in and got No. 3 batter Brad Blumer to ground into Cameron's (3-9) third double play of the night, 6-4-3.
Rodriguez later gave up two more hits and run in the ninth, but came back with a strikeout of Brandon Raidy to end the game, giving ACU (9-7) it's first winning weekend of the season at 2-1.
ACU's offense scored all its runs between the fourth and sixth innings.
Kyle Conwell got the Wildcats' rolling the fourth with a one-out single, which was followed by a walk issued by starter Drew Reidt (0-2) to
Ryan Luckie.
Reidt may have injured himself during his series with Luckie as he was quickly lifted in favor of Jordan Watson, who was quickly touched up for three-straight hits, including a run-scoring single from
Heath Beasley and a two-run double from
Seth Spivey that made it a 3-0 game.
Eager singled to advance Spivey to third and
Kyle Giusti drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center.
After a 1-2-3 fifth inning, Eager and Spivey went at it again in the sixth vs. Watson and reliever Steve Matta.
Spivey delivered a one-out double that put runners in scoring position, and Eager followed with a bases-clearing triple to put the Wildcats ahead 6-0.
Giusti kept the inning alive by reaching on one of two errors by the Cameron third baseman, and
Travis Schuetze brought him home on a routine single.
Schuetze's hit extended his hitting streak to eight and reached-base streak to 16.
Spivey and Eager combined to go 6-for-9 tonight with three runs and five RBI. Luckie also reached base all four times and scored two runs.
The Wildcats return to action later this week for a three-game home series vs. Bellarmine of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Games take place Thursday to Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field with start times of 7 p.m., 7 p.m. and noon.
