INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Abilene Christian's third-ranked women's tennis team started its three-day road trip Sunday morning with a convincing 7-0 win over NCAA D-I Butler University of the Atlantic-10 Conference.
The Wildcats' (7-1) victory was their sixth straight and fourth by shutout, while Butler fell to 3-10. ACU continues its trip Tuesday when it will face both Northern Kentucky and nationally-ranked Kentucky in Lexington.
Today's match ended in about two hours and 30 minutes as the Wildcats won all but one set. ACU's three doubles teams all won by matching scores of 8-1, and then its six singles players captured 12 of 13 sets. No. 32
Micah Hermsdorf - playing at No. 2 singles - won her first set over Caroline Hedrick, 7-6 (1), but then lost the second, 6-2, before coming back to win the third, 6-0.
In doubles, the fifth-ranked doubles team of Julie Mongin and
Brittney Reed improved to 4-1 at the top position, while 2012 all-Americas Hermsdorf and
Hannah Kelley improved to 3-1 with their win at No. 2.
Kaysie Hermsdorf and
Laura Mongin won the match at No. 3, giving the Wildcats an overall doubles season record of 21-2 (.913).
ACU's combined singles record is an equally staggering 40-7 (.851).
