Wildcats finish fifth in final tune-up before LSC Tournament


DALLAS – In their final tune-up before next week's Lone Star Conference championship tournament, the ACU Wildcats finished fifth Tuesday in the Dallas Baptist University Classic at The Golf Club of Dallas.

The Wildcats finished behind Texas Wesleyan, which won the tournament with a three-round score of 5-under-par 835 (269-284-282); second-place Lubbock Christian, which finished at 8-over-par 848 (285-270-293); and Oklahoma Christian (283-277-289) and St. Edward's (280-279-290), both of shot 9-over-par 849.

The Wildcats were in third place entering Tuesday's final round, but shot their worst round of the tournament at 14-over-par 294 to finish at 12-over-par 852 with rounds of 280-278-294.

ACU freshman Corbin Renner finished tied for fourth at 2-under-par 208 with rounds 71 in the first and third rounds sandwiching a second-round 66.  Senior Kyle Dickerson finished tied for 20th at 2-over-par 212 (71-68-73), followed by Trey Sullivan, who was tied for 34th at 7-over-par 217 (70-73-74).

ACU junior Alex Carpenter was in the hunt for the individual championship through two rounds (1-under-par 139 with rounds of 68 and 71 on Monday), but he slid down to a tie for 40th after struggling to a round a 79, his highest score of the season.  Freshman Luke Carpenter finished tied for 70th at 15-over-par 225 (75-74-76).

The Wildcats and the other seven conference teams will be in action next Monday and Tuesday in the LSC Championship Tournament, which will be played at The Trophy  Club Country Club in Roanoke.
