Wildcats Suffer Season's First Loss, Drop 5-2 Decision Vs. Lamar

ABILENE - The sixth-ranked Abilene Christian women's tennis team lost its first dual match of the season Sunday, dropping a 5-2 decision to NCAA DI opponent Lamar University of the Southland Conference.

The loss snapped ACU's (5-1) season-opening five-match winning streak. Lamar improved to 2-3.

ACU started the match losing the doubles point, and then fell in four-of-six singles contests. No. 13 Micah Hermsdorf won her match at No. 2 over Natalia Mayagoitia 7-5, 6-3 to remain undefeated at 6-0. Felicity Delgado improved to 5-0 with her win at No. 6 vs. Helene Czudek, 6-2, 6-0.

Laura Mongin and Brittney Reed won ACU's lone doubles match at No. 2, beating the tandem of Alicia Porte and Natalia Mayagoitia, 8-1. Julia Mongin and Hermsdorf lost a hard-fought 8-6 match at No. 1 to Carolina Salas and Carolina Maso.

ACU returns to action in two weeks (Feb. 23-25) when they'll play several games throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. Opponents will include Bethel, Tennessee-Martin, Southern Indiana, Eastern Kentucky, and Lipscomb.
