Wildcats dominate Colorado Christian in doubleheader sweep

ABILENE – Five ACU pitchers combined to give up just two runs, 12 hits and one walk Friday as the Wildcats swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from Colorado Christian at cool and blustery Crutcher Scott Field.

The Wildcats won the first game, 5-2, and then took the second game by the 10-run rule, 11-0.  The Wildcats and Cougars will be back in action Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m.

The two wins push ACU to 4-2 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-2.

ACU junior Aaron Lambrix – battling back from injuries that cost him most of the 2011 season – scattered three hits and struck out four batters in six shutout innings in the second game.  Lambrix gave up two singles and one double and didn't allow a runner past second base in the nightcap.  Emmett Niland worked the seventh to finish off the 11-0 win.

Senior infielder Duncan Blades was the offensive star in the second game, finishing 3 for 4 with one run scored and two RBI.  Junior catcher Rodge Macy was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI.

The Wildcats led 2-0 after the first inning and then put the game away with an eight-run, seven-hit third inning that pushed their lead to 10-0.  Macy had a two-run double to left-centerfield to key the inning.

In Friday's opener, the Wildcats scored three times in the third and two more times in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Starter Clint Cooper scattered six hits and two runs over five innings en route to picking up his first win of the season.  Sam Malchar worked a perfect sixth inning, and then Michael Curtis cleaned it up in the seventh to pick up the save.

Senior leftfielder Ryan Luckie had two RBI in the win, while Bldes and Mike Keegan each drove in a run.
