ACU takes down West Florida

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The red-hot ACU Widlcats continued their roll through the Las Vegas Invitational on Wednesday with their second win over a top-10 opponent in as many days, this time a 5-4 win over No. 5 West Florida at the Darling Tennis Center.

The Wildcats' second straight 5-4 win over a top-10 foe pushes them to 11-6 on the season.  After beating No. 8 Concordia (N.Y.) late Tuesday night and No. 5 West Florida on Wednesday, the Wildcats are taking No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) at 9 a.m. (Vegas time) Thursday in their final match of the tournament.

The Argonauts (12-7) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play with ACU's only victory coming at No. 1 where Hans Hach and Jake Hendrie knocked off the UWF tandem of Leandro Ferreira and Andrey Pozhidaev, 9-7.

UWF led the match 3-2 after Pozhidaev knocked off ACU's Eldad Campbell, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, but ACU stormed back to win three of the final four singles matches and take the match.

Bryan Joiner got the comeback started with a 6-1, 6-2 in over Mike Lue at No. 5 singles to knot the match at 3-3.  Hach – ranked No. 17 in the nation in singles – knocked off 15th-ranked Ferreira, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 singles to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead.  ACU clinched the match at No. 3 singles when Alfredo Desiati knocked off Sean Gunnels, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, to give ACU an insurmountable 5-3 lead.
