ABILENE – Abilene Christian volleyball's second SideOut Club social takes place Tuesday at Moody Coliseum immediately following the Wildcats' 7 p.m. match vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville. Fans who join the club tomorrow evening or earlier can enjoy a free postgame meal courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings.
The social will take place in room 132 of Moody Coliseum.
SideOut Club memberships range from $30 to $500 and all include a membership card, t-shirt and an invitation to the Nov. 1 (vs. Angelo State) club event.
Donors who give at the All-LSC and All-American level are also entitled to receive an autographed poster, volleyball, or both.
All sponsorship dollars received by the club directly benefits the ACU volleyball team to provide help with uniform, equipment, travel and recruiting costs.
The Wildcats enter this week at 11-10 overall and are in the thick of the Lone Star Conference standings with a fourth-place record of 5-4, while Kingsville is 10-8 and 4-7.
ACU won its first meeting vs. the Javelinas earlier this season on Sept. 6. The Wildcats dropped the first two sets, 25-23, 25-19, before turning the match completely around and winning the final three sets, 25-15, 25-12, 15-13, to take the match. ACU scored five of the final six points to win the decisive fifth set.
Senior Jennie Hutt led all players with 20 kills (.405 attack percentage) to go along with 19 digs and four blocks in perhaps the best all-around match of her career.
Hutt and her teammates are coming off a recent 1-1 road trip, which started with a 3-0 loss to Midwestern State followed by a 3-1 victory vs. Cameron. The Aggies have now lost eight straight to the Wildcats stemming back to 2003.
The Wildcats produced a .277 hitting percentage against Cameron as they committed just 17 errors through 130 attempts. By comparison, the Lady Aggies plagued by 29 miscues that lowered its percentage to .178. Cameron hit very well during their third-set win (.519) but book ended that performance with a combined 17 errors through sets two and four.
ACU also beat Cameron at the net, 9-5, and have now outblocked its last seven opponents by a margin of 52-33.5. Sophomore Neely Borger leads the Wildcat block with 64 and an average of 0.78 per set. She also is tops on ACU with 21 service aces.
Hutt continues to pace the Wildcats' offense with 342 points off 311 kills, while senior Kelsie Edwards carries the defense with 386 digs. Edwards took over as ACU's all-time leader in this category with 1624 after surpassing Jessica Mays (1993-96) total of 1578 two weeks ago at Washburn's Lady Blues Fall Classic.
The Wildcats return again to the road following Tuesday night's contest with season-debut matches at third-place Tarleton State (13-8, 7-2) and second-place Angelo State (20-2, 9-1).
