UP NEXT
After a short road swing this weekend the Wildcats will return home for a four game home stand to round out their home schedule for 2010. The Wildcats will host West Texas A&M on Friday a team that fell one game short of reaching the national semifinals a year ago. Sunday the Wildcats will play host to Eastern New Mexico with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
LEAGUE LEADERS
Freshmen
Andrea Carpenter has made her presence known around the LSC. She is currently atop the leaders in goals with 7 and points per game with 2.67 and 16 points total.
RECORD WATCH
Freshmen
Andrea Carpenter is quickly etching her name in the ACU record books. The Amarillo native has eight goals already on the season and is just two away from the single season record of 10 held by current Wildcat
Lyndsey Womack who is sitting this season due to injury and also four away from second place all-time,
Jordan Reese's career total of 12. Carpenter is also six points away from Womack's point record as she has 18 total points on eight goals and two assists.
ROAD WORK
So far in 2010 the Wildcats have posted a 5-0 record on the road. This weekend ACU will be tested as they face two teams ranked in the top of the NSCAA Regional Poll. The coaches' poll does not reflect the final NCAA regional rankings, which will debut in two weeks on October 13th.
SHOOT TO SCORE
The Wildcats have brought plenty of offensive firepower this season after struggling a year ago. ACU is currently out-scoring their opponents 18-6 after scoring 23 goals all of last season.
STIFF COMPETITION
In the first non-conference portion of the Wildcats schedule they have already faced two nationally ranked teams, Florida Southern and Midwestern State. For ACU the schedule doesn't get any easier. The LSC slate for the Wildcats includes West Texas A&M who reached the National Quarterfinals and Central Oklahoma who was eliminated in the first round of the national tournament. Also four LSC schools are currently ranked in the coaches' regional poll including this weekend's opponent Northeastern State.
QUICK STARTS
After missing the 2009 season
Ashley Holton wasted little time in her first ACU start scoring two goals in a season opening win at Colorado-Colorado Springs. Freshman
Andrea Carpenter followed suit with Holton recording an assist on the season's first goal as well as scoring a goal of her own in each of the first two games.
