Wildcats Fall In LSC Opener

ABILENE – The Wildcat's upset bid of No. 25 Midwestern State fell short on Sunday afternoon at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch dropping the Lone Star Conference opener, 2-1 in front of 213 fans.
ACU struck first on an Andrea Carpenter goal just outside the box as Julie Coppedge threaded a pass between two Mustang defenders for the games' first goal. However, that would be all the Wildcats could muster after a few close calls including two shots off the post.
Midwestern State would tie the game in the 19th minute when Heidi Avila passed a header to Kelsey Hill making the score 1-1.
In the second half MSU controlled most of the game almost doubling the Wildcats shots, 11-6 although they just had one more shot on goal with a 4-3 advantage. The Mustangs would take two shots from Mickey Brown who picked her own rebound off the left post giving MSU a 2-1 lead and the eventual final score.
Arielle Moncure recorded three saves in the match, but was peppered all afternoon with 15 shots from the Mustangs.
The Wildcats will return to LSC action next weekend as they make a trip through Oklahoma when they meet up with East Central on Friday and a Sunday afternoon contest at Northeastern State.
