Wildcats Drop Heartbreaker

ABILENE – A heartbreaking loss Saturday morning snapped the Wildcats 4-0 start as they lost in overtime, 3-2 to 12th-ranked Florida Southern. A goal by Adi Alvarado on the opening kickoff knuckled past Elliot London keeping ACU from pulling off the upset.
ACU falls to 4-1 on the season with the overtime loss. The Wildcats upset bid of nationally ranked Florida Southern would have been the second win over a ranked opponent after ACU took down Central Missouri last year in the season opener. ACU returns to action Tuesday in non-conference action at Texas-Permian Basin.
ACU controlled the game much of the first period after Florida Southern's Princess Haley opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Shortly after the Moccasins took the lead freshmen Andrea Carpenter would tie the game at 1-1 with her sixth goal of the season.
Just 10 minutes later ACU would take the lead as Ashley Holton found the corner of the net off a corner kick from Katherine Garner
Both teams would play dead locked as the Wildcats held a one point advantage until the 83rd minute. Jessica Giblin found an opening inside the ACU box and knotting the game up at, 2-2.
Alvarado would then put the kickoff to open overtime past London giving the Moccasins the victory. London had three saves in the game as she picked up her first loss as a starter.
