DUNCAN, Okla. – ACU opens the 2010 NCAA DII South Central/Midwest Super Regional golf tournament today at the Territory Golf & Country Club. The Wildcats earned their first Lone Star Conference Title since 1995 and are in search of their second regional title since 1994.
The Wildcats are the top ranked team in the South Central Region and are coming off their first Lone Star Conference Tournament Title since 1995. ACU also moved up from No. 21 to No. 13 in the latest Nike / Golf World Coaches Poll released Friday afternoon.
Out of those 20 schools, the top five teams and top two individuals not on participating teams (regardless of region) advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship in Noblesville, Ind., May 18-21.
The Wildcats enter the regional tournament on a hot streak and on the heels of the program's finest spring season in 15 years.
ACU posted five top-four team finishes and three team championships in six tournaments, including a win two weeks ago at the Lone Star Conference championship. The LSC title was the program's first since 1995 and was sealed by junior Cyril Bouniol and freshman Alex Carpenter who tied for the individual conference championship.
Carpenter, in fact, has won four individual championships in his freshman season, including the title at last September's Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate. His four titles are the most by a Wildcat in a single season since current PGA Tour pro Jeev Singh won five tournaments in 1992-93.
Carpenter is ranked No. 1 in the region and No. 5 in the country, while Bouniol is ranked No. 13 in the country.
