Wildcats Cruise Past Lady Buffs

ABILENE – Ashley Holton recorded two goals as the Wildcats picked up their first win over West Texas A&M, 4-1 Friday afternoon at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch. Holton's sixth goal in three games helped ACU improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in league play.

Just six minutes into the game ACU jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Lady Buffs as Holton pushed her ninth goal of the season past WTAMU's Kelly Skehan. Holton would add her 10th goal of the season tying her with Lyndsey Womack as the Wildcats single season goal leader.

The first half goal would be the only goal either team could manage as ACU took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Opening the second half the Wildcats got a goal from Courtney Wilson on a deep pass from Holton to give ACU a 2-0 lead. From there the Wildcats never let up scoring two more times in the win.

The Lady Buffs only goal came from Samantha Cameron in the 50th minute just after Wilson's goal to keep the Wildcat advantage to one. However, the Wildcats would outshoot the Lady Buffs 14-6 and pick up a goal from Krysta Grimm, giving ACU a two goal lead again.

Grimm's goal would come off a long throw in from the sideline by way of Kendall Cooper allowing her to head the ball in the net for her first goal of the season.

The win is the first for ACU over West Texas A&M since the program began in 2007. It moves the Wildcats to 1-2-1 all-time vs. the Lady Buffs.

ACU will continue their home stand on Sunday as they welcome Eastern New Mexico to the Wildcat Soccer Pitch. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will wrap-up homecoming festivities on the ACU campus.
