ACU loses rain-soaked match

ABILENE – A steady rain that remained constant throughout the match didn't deter fifth-ranked Incarnate Word as the Cardinals dealt the Wildcats their second straight loss with a 3-0 win Friday evening at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch.

A goal by Sarah Hernandez in the 32nd minute put Incarnate Word on top early.  The Cardinals held a 1-0 after the first half where both teams had five shots a piece.

However, the second half created three more shots for the Cardinals as they outshot the Wildcats 14-11 overall.  The second goal came from Emily Hernandez on a pass from Lianah Flores who recorded her second assist of the game.

Incarnate Word added one more goal as some confusion near the box led to a short pass from sophomore Clarissa Cruz to Emily Hernandez accounted for her second of the game.  The shot came with less than one minute on the clock improving their record to 5-0-1 while the Wildcats drop to 2-2.

ACU will continue its homestand Tuesday as it hosts Hardin-Simmons at ACU.
