INDIANAPOLIS -- Former ACU standouts Johnny Knox and Bernard Scott were on the turf of Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday at the NFL Combine, and both turned in performances that should improve their chances at being drafted in April.
Knox was especially impressive as he turned in one of the fastest 40-yard times ever as he clocked in at a blistering 4.34 seconds. He was unofficially timed at 4.25 before it was adjusted to an official time of 4.34.
The former Wildcat all-America wide receiver then put on a dazzling show in the receiving drills, dropping only a couple of balls. He was one of the players mentioned by cnnsi.com writer Tony Pauline as one of his top risers from Day 4 of the Combine.
"Knox did everything a small school prospect is suppose to do at the combine," Pauline wrote. "He started the morning scorching the field running times of 4.30 seconds in both his 40's, with some watches timing Knox in the high 4.2-area. Knox then put in a terrific pass-catching workout and the few times he did drop a pass, he took extra reps to make up for his miscue. He's another who improved his draft stock some 60 slots.
Scott clocked in at 4.56 in the 40-yard dash, but had the fastest time among all running backs in the 3-cone drills (6.82 seconds) and the 20-yard shuttle (4.08 seconds).
Among those he topped in each drill were Georgia running back Knowshow Moreno, considered by many to be the top running back in the draft; Michigan State all-America Javon Ringer; and Texas A&M speedster Mike Goodson.
Scott measured a 36-inch vertical jump and had the third-best broad jump (10 feet, 5 inches) among running backs, just behind leader Chris "Beanie" Wells of Ohio State, who had a 10-8 broad jump. Knox had a standing broad jump of 10-2, which was ninth among wide receivers.
Knox turned in a time of 4.15 in the 20-yard shuttle, which was fifth-best among receivers.
Knox and Scott -- as well as former Wildcat quarterback Billy Malone -- are expected to be in Abilene next month to showcase their skills for pro scouts at ACU's Pro Day.
