Mustangs clip Wildcats 2-1 in OT

CANYON – Midwestern striker Kari Bristow scored her second goal from six yards out in the 94th minute as the fourth-seeded Mustangs eliminated Abilene Christian Thursday in the first round of the Lone Star Soccer Championship at The Pitch in Canyon.

The loss not only knocks the Wildcats out of the conference tournament but drops them to 10-7-2 on the season.  Most notably the loss to MSU makes ACU's chances of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament very slim.

For the second time in less than a week, the Wildcats and Mustangs tangled although today's game was a different story.  After a 3-0 shutout last Friday ACU held Midwestern scoreless in the first half as neither team found the goal.  With strong winds in the face of the Wildcats they were only able to get two shots off compared to the Mustangs eight in the first half.

Early in the second half the Wildcats used two consecutive corner kicks to fire shots at freshmen Mallory Withworth.  In the 54th minute Lyndsey Womack kicked the second toss from Kendall Cooper for the game's first goal.

However MSU used a 12-6 shot advantage to find Bristow for her first goal of the day off a penalty kick.

ACU is now waiting to see if they will earn one of the 48 spots in the NCAA tournament when the pairings are announced Monday, November 9.  The loss makes the Wildcats 0-2 all-time in the LSC tournament while Midwestern advances to play top-seeded West Texas A&M on Friday.
