Wildcats Set for LSC Tournament

CANYON – As the Lone Star Conference Tournament kicks off Thursday the ACU women's soccer team comes in ranked No. 7 in the South Central Region as released Wednesday.

The final regular season poll finds West Texas A&M at the top spot. Coming in at No. 2 is Incarnate Word followed by St. Edward's at No. 3 and Nebraska-Omaha at No. 4. Truman checks in at No. 5 and Midwestern State comes in at No. 6 the final spot to be selected for the NCAA Division II Tournament. Behind ACU is Central Oklahoma at No. 8, Central Missouri at No. 9, and Northwest Missouri at No. 10.

Teams winning their conference tournament earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Championship selections to the 48 team tournament will be made Monday, November 9 and can be seen on ncaa.com.

The Wildcats (10-6-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the LSC) enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 seed Midwestern State at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. ACU dropped a 3-0 decision to Midwestern State in its regular-season finale last Friday in Wichita Falls.

The winner of that match will play West Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. The championship match is set for 1 p.m. Sunday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament.

West Texas A&M, 13-2-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the LSC, is the top seed for the six-team, single-elimination tournament for the second straight season. The Lady Buffs won their second consecutive and fifth overall LSC crown in 2008.

Central Oklahoma also earned a first-round bye as the runner-up with a 7-3 league record.

The championship begins on Thursday at noon with No. 3 Texas Woman's playing No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce, followed by the ACU-MSU match at 2:30 p.m.
