Wildcats Hit The LSC Road

ABILENE – The Wildcats women's soccer team is off to its best start under head coach Casey Wilson, both in their third year.  ACU is 7-3-1 and 2-0-1 in the Lone Star Conference with all three losses coming from nationally ranked opponents and have debuted at No-4 in the first regional rankings.

ACU has been led by solid defense this season with goalkeeper Crissy Lawson who leads the LSC in saves and is second in shutouts.  Lawson has 55 saves and four shutouts, two behind the league leader.

Junior Courtney Wilson has paced the Wildcats with five goals and two assists.  She has also added two game winning goals including an overtime winner.

Two freshmen have also helped add an extra punch to the offensive side of the ball for the Wildcats.  Lexi Stirling, with two goals, and Julie Coppedge, who has three goals have given the Wildcats some much needed offensive help this season while Coppedge has three game winners with two coming in overtime.

The Wildcats who have had a healthy home slate to open the season will be on the road for five of their remaining seven games.   ACU is 6-1-1 at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch while they are 1-1 on the road.  This week the Wildcats will travel to Oklahoma to take on SW Oklahoma State on Friday and Central Oklahoma on Sunday.

SW Oklahoma is currently 3-8-1 and 0-3 in the LSC while UCO sits ahead of the Wildcats in the standings at 3-1 and they are 9-4-1 overall.  The Bronchos will definitely test the ACU defense as they lead the conference in goals, shots, and points early this season.

Friday's match in Weatherford, Oklahoma will start at 4:00 p.m. against SW Oklahoma State.  ACU will travel to UCO on Sunday for an afternoon matinee at 1:00 p.m. in Edmond, Oklahoma.
