ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Christian women's soccer kept its unbeaten streak at Elmer Gray Stadium alive Thursday evening, earning a 1-0 victory over Northwestern State. The Wildcats improve to 3-0 at home and move to 4-4 overall on the season.
Raelin Miller provided the difference in the 72nd minute, scoring her first collegiate goal off an assist from Amelia Leggett. Miller's finish capped a strong offensive push, as ACU outshot the Lady Demons 11-8 and generated 10 corner kicks on the night.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Bella Medrano posted her third win of the year and a clean slate, recording two saves and anchoring a back line that kept Northwestern State off the scoreboard despite their late pressure.
"A great job on both sides of the ball in getting another shutout on the season and having a nice build to find the game winner," said beach coach Stephen Salas. "To stay undefeated at home and create a strong home field advantage is fantastic. The team responded well in the second half, coming out with energy and grit while staying more composed in finding space and connecting. Very proud of Mel for finding Raelin with an amazing goal to the top corner. Raelin's been intentional in her play and resilience to make tonight even more special. An exciting win which will give us more momentum going into the next game at Baylor on Sunday night."
With the win, ACU extended its strong home form and added another milestone moment with Miller's first career goal. The Wildcats will look ahead to carry their momentum into their final non-conference matchup against a Big 12 foe, Baylor.
ACU travels to Waco on Sunday to face the Bears, with kickoff scheduled at 7:00 p.m. CT.
