ABILENE – The Wildcats women's soccer team opens up the heart of conference play this weekend as they host Northeastern State on Friday and East Central on Sunday. ACU is 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in the conference as the Wildcats are riding a four game winning streak.
ACU is boasting one of the best defenses in the league led by senior goalkeeper, Crissy Lawson. Lawson leads the Lone Star Conference in saves totaling 48 and a 5.33 save per game average.
Freshmen Lexi Stirling and Julie Coppedge have emerged for the offensive side of the ball as LSC play approaches, a point that struggled last season. Coppedege leads the Wildcats with three goals on the season all of which were game winners. Stirling leads the Wildcats in points with four, totaling two goals and two assists. Junior Courtney Wilson is tied with Coppedge for the Wildcat lead with three goals on the season.
The Wildcats are coming off a streak of four overtime games in the last five where they are 3-1.
The Riverhawks are 4-4 and 1-1 in the LSC coming into Friday's match. NSU defeated East Central on Tuesday, 2-1 in a double overtime contest. Freshmen Rachel Sordahl leads the Riverhawks with eight goals on the season including the game winner of ECU and a hat trick to open the season against Oklahoma Science & Arts.
East Central is currently 3-2-2 and 0-1 in the LSC. The Tigers will travel to Angelo State before Sunday's contest with the Wildcats. Sophomore Whitney Watts leads the Tigers with seven goals on the season including a goal against NSU in the Tigers only conference match.
