ACU shoots lowest final round; finishes 2nd

AUSTIN -- The ACU golf team fired a low-round 281 Wednesday that propelled the Wildcats into a second-place finish at the South Central Regional played at the Grey Rock Golf Club.
ACU started the day in the fourth spot, but the Wildcats' lowest round of the tournament, and second lowest overall round in the tournament, gave them a three-round total of 872. Host St. Edward's won the regional with an 841, while Cameron (who started the final round in second place) finished third with an 879 and Southeastern Oklahoma State (who started the final round in third place) finished fourth with an 884. Rounding out the rest of the regional, Southwestern Oklahoma State finished fifth, followed by Central Oklahoma at No. 6, Northeastern State at No. 7, and St. Mary's at No. 8.
Individually, ACU's Curtis Harris finished in sixth-place overall as he shot a final-round 70 to put him at 214 for the tournament. Patrick Hanauer had a big final-round for the Wildcats as he shot a team-low 68, which moved him into a tie for 14th overall with a 220. Stephen Knight shot a final-round 74 as he finished in 17th place with a 222. Cyril Buoniol also had a strong final-round showing for ACU as he shot a 69, which put him tied for 18th overall with a 223.
Cameron's Peter Svajlen had the best individual mark as he shot a three-round total of 208.
This is the second year the Wildcats finished in second place at the regional. ACU now awaits an at-large bid to the NCAA National Tournament, which runs May 14-17 in Houston.
