ACU sweeps Highlands

Wildcats blank Highlands, 4-0 and 3-0

ACU moves over .500 with sweep of New Mexico Highlands

ABILENE -- Three ACU pitchers combined to shut out New Mexico Highlands in a doubleheader sweep of the Cowgirls in a non-conference doubleheader at Wells Field.

ACU knocked off the Cowgirls 4-0 in the first game, and then followed that shutout win with a 3-0 win in the second game.

The two wins push the Wildcats back over .500 (16-15) before Lone Star Conference South Division play begins this weekend with ACU taking on Tarleton State in a four-game series at Tarleton State.

In the first game, Heather Cochran limited the Cowgirls to just five hits over seven innings while walking one and striking out three.  ACU got a single run in the second inning and three more in the fourth inning.  J.D. Williams provided Cochran with all the run support she would need with a solo home run in the second inning.

In the second game, Christina Yorkey and Shauna Bragg combined on a five-hit shutout with Bragg getting the victory.  ACU got all the runs it would need in the third when it scored two runs on an RBI groundout by Lanessa Glover and an RBI single by Katie Bryan.
