Wildcats finish 13th at Chenal Trojan Cup

ACU finishes with rounds of 300, 300, 310

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Southeastern Louisiana set a tournament record with a three-round 862 to win the Chenal Trojan Cup golf tournament hosted by the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

The previous team record of 873 was set by Troy State in the 1995 tourney.

Southeastern Louisiana's Andy Smith shot a nine-under par 207, also a tournament record, to win individual honors. Smith shot 68 in each of his first two rounds and a 71 during the final round. Smith's teammate Anders Hofvander shot214, tying the previous tournament record which was held by UALR's Daniel Fox, who won the event in 2001, and Troy State's Kevin Blanton, who won in '95. As a team, the Lions shot 288-285-289.

ACU finished 13th at the tournament, following up Monday's round of 300 with Tuesday rounds of 300 and 310 to finish at 910 for the tournament.

Junior Brian O'Leary was ACU's top performer, finishing tied for 13th at 221 (74-70-77). ACU's other finishers were Gary Pike in 37th at 226 (75-77-74), James Fleming at 229 (76-76-77), and Trey Rowe and David VanRyke both at 240 (Rowe, 79-77-84 and VanRyke 75-83-82).

Host UALR finished in a three-way tie for the sixth spot, shooting 294-295-311-900. The Trojans tied with fellow Sun Belt Conference schools North Texas (302-302-296) and New Mexico State (292-303-305). Raul Sanz and Luke Bakke were the top finishers for UALR, as each shot a three-round 221 and tied for 24th.
