Before ACU
Ryan had an outstanding career at Aubrey HS in T&F. His sophomore year, in the spring of 2022, he performed well in the District 9-4A meet placing 2nd in the 300 hurdles and 5th in the 110 hurdles. He then ended up placing 5th in the Region II-4A 300H, missing a trip to the state meet as a sophomore by a few fractions of a second. He broke through that barrier as a junior, as he placed 6th in the 300H at the state meet and ran on the state runner-up 4x200 and 4x400 relays, as Aubrey HS fell just short of winning the 4A team title. He ranked #20 in Texas and #70 in the U.S. for all HS 300 hurdlers as a junior. In a highly successful senior season, he medaled in three events – getting 2nd in the 300H, ran on the 1st place 4x400 relay and on the 3rd place 4x100 relay, as Aubrey HS finished 3rd in the team championship race in 4A. His 4x400 relay set a new state 4A record of 3:13.10, With a personal best time of 37.28 as a senior, Ryan ranked #13 in Texas and #38 among all high school 300 hurdlers in the U.S. He finished his high school career as a 5-time state medal winner and the school record holder in the 300H, as well as being a member of the school record relays in all three outdoor relays – the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400.
