Biography

Before ACU: High School – at Wimberley HS, just south of Austin, Landon had a strong senior season,
concentrating particularly on relays. He just missed going to state in the triple jump, getting 4 th at the
Region IV-4A meet, but he went 4A in 2 events – as Wimberley won the 4x400 relay, placed 2 nd in the
4x200 relay, and won the 4A team championship. As a junior, Landon would place 6 th in the TJ and 8 th in
the open 400, but made his first trip to state on the 8 th place 4x400 relay. Finishing his career, he would
be on the school record relays for all three competitive relays – the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. Western
Colorado University – Landon spent 2 years at Gunnison, CO at WCU. His first year he redshirted both
indoors and outdoors – not unusual for track athletes who have to acclimate to the altitude, at 7,700
feet, the highest altitude for any 4-year college T&F team. As a redshirt freshman, Landon placed 5 th in
the open 400 indoors at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet, then placed 9 th at the NCAA D-2
championship running on the distance medley relay. At the RMAC outdoor championship, he placed 3 rd
in the 400 and 7 th in the 200. His PR time of 47.49 in the 400 was the third fastest 400 time in WCU
history and he was a nominee for the WCU Athletic Newcomer of the Year.

Personal: Landon graduated from Wimberley HS in 2022, where he was National Honor Society and
Academic All-State. His parents are Nancy and Jason Gary and he has two brothers, Braden and Talon.
While at WCU, he also accumulated several academic awards – a 4-time Dean’s List member, the WCU
Peak Merit Scholarship, and First-team RMAC All-Academic team. At ACU, he is majoring in Accounting
and Financial Management. He is also an active member of the Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley.
Why did you choose ACU? There are several reasons, beginning with my desire to come back to Texas
and be close to my family again, after being in Colorado for 2 years and getting all of my skiing out of my
system. I also wanted to go to a school similar to WCU – small class sizes, beautiful campus, and great
academics – a hard combination to find. Most important, though, I wanted to choose a school that will
encourage and grow my Faith in Christ. I did not grow up with that Faith – I found Faith in Christ in my
first year at WCU. I truly believe ACU will help me grow my Faith significantly. ACU’s community is built
around Faith and Glorifying God, which really drew me in. I believe it is God’s will that has brought me to
ACU – it is something I prayed for at WCU, but never thought I would have this opportunity to compete
for a program and attend a university like ACU.

Having a dedicated time three times each week to forget the stress and busy-ness of school and track and just worship Christ is huge for me. I love singing worship songs and hearing different stories and presentations each week, each talking about Faith. Then, to have T&F chapel once a week and see our coaches talk about their Faith is inspiring. Each Thursday, I attend Student Accounting Organization Chapel when people from accounting firms come and share with us helpful and useful information and opportunities. I look forward to Chapel each and every day – it is 20-30 minutes to reset my mind and focus solely on the Lord and I don’t believe I would be the best job of that without the Chapel experience.
